On June 1, 12 of us embarked on a weight loss contest for money, health, and most importantly, pride.
The rules were simple:
- Buy-in: $100/person. Winners take the pot of $1,200.
- Each team comprised of one girl and one boy, imposing the accountability factor. One could be running 3x per day, while his partner negated all sweaty efforts with a gallon of cookie dough ice cream. One could be going gung-ho, eating clean, and investing in a personal trainer, while the other dragged feet, going on 10 minute jogs solely in fear of his girlfriend’s fury. Really, one could lose the most weight out of everyone, and it wouldn’t matter because his partner lost 2 lbs.
- The weight loss was calculated by percentage lost, rather than by mere numbers dropped. Losing 50 lbs when you are 300 lbs will require eating two cookies instead of ten and taking a walk…
